Crucial Conversations helps stewards or JOHS committee representatives recognize high-stakes situations before they escalate into crises. It shares methods for bringing interactions back to a safe place and fostering productive communication. Participants learn techniques effective for communication in critical situations to help achieve shared objectives with respect.

Embodying Your Practice is delivered by educators Anita Chari and Angelica Singh of Embodying Your Curriculum. The course introduces the foundational skills of trauma-informed practice to help settle the nervous system and process the overwhelm and trauma that may be held in the body.

Foundations in Occupational Health and Safety focuses on fundamental safety skills and strengthens members knowledge of worker safety rights and responsibilities.

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Hazard Identification and Inspections is a blended learning course comprised of online learning activities and one live session scheduled over a one-month period. Building on your JOHS Committee Basics training, learn about hazard identification, risk assessments, control measures, evaluation & follow-up, as well as legislation & contractual requirements.

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Incident Investigations is a blended learning course comprised of online learning activities and one live session scheduled over a one-month period. Building on your JOHS Committee Basics training, learn how to prepare for an incident investigation, participate in the incident investigation process, develop a follow-up plan, and about legal requirements.

Steward Advanced is a blended learning course comprised of weekly online learning activities and four live sessions scheduled over a two-month period. It is designed as a mentorship program for BCNU stewards to reflect on the current skills and abilities they possess. Stewards will set and work towards achieving their personal goals to strengthen their skill set.

This introductory course gives new BCNU worksite stewards the tools to create and maintain a consistent practice to advocate for and empower members to stand up for themselves and protect their workplace rights. It covers key components of steward work and examines the grievance process so that stewards can present grievances confidently at the Step 1 level.

Designed to strengthen the ability of BCNU stewards to address issues in their workplaces while supporting BCNU members, this course reinforces key concepts taught in Steward Essentials by exploring labour relations theory about progressive discipline, union investigations, reading and interpreting collective agreements, and the grievance process. Additional learning activities focus on communicating effectively in difficult conversations and integrating member advocacy services provided by BCNU.
